Frequently Asked Questions

How do I activate my license?

After purchase, check your email for a message from StrayFiles — it contains your license key. Launch StrayFiles, and when prompted, paste your key into the activation field and click "Activate License."

I lost my license key. How do I retrieve it?

Search your email for a message from StrayFiles (sent via Jamdillo). If you can't find it, email us at [email protected] with the email address you used to purchase and we'll resend it.

How many Macs can I use StrayFiles on?

Your license key works on all your personal Macs — there's no device limit.

StrayFiles says it needs Full Disk Access. Is that safe?

Yes. Full Disk Access is required so StrayFiles can scan your entire filesystem for leftover files. The app runs entirely on your Mac — it never sends any file data, paths, or information to any server.

StrayFiles isn't finding files for an app I deleted. Why?

Make sure Full Disk Access is granted in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access. Some apps store files in unusual locations — if you believe something is being missed, email us with details and we'll look into improving detection.

I accidentally deleted something. Can I get it back?

Yes! StrayFiles moves files to the Trash — it doesn't permanently delete them. Open the Trash in Finder and restore anything you need.

Does StrayFiles work with Apple Silicon Macs?

Yes. StrayFiles is a universal binary that runs natively on both Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4) and Intel Macs.

What macOS version is required?

StrayFiles requires macOS 13 Ventura or later.

Can I get a refund?

Yes — we offer a 7-day refund policy. See our Refund Policy for details, or email us at [email protected].
